Speaker hails Aregbesola’s Supreme Court victory

The Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Najeem Salaam, has hailed the Supreme Court judgement which affirmed the victory of Governor Rauf Aregbesola at the August 9th 2014 governorship election.

The Speaker, in a statement made available to our correspondent by his media aide, Mr. Goke Butika, described the victory as a deserved one, while saying the verdict was a confirmation that the people of the state voted for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

Salaam asked the governor to deploy the same energy  used before and during the last election on the governance now “by hitting the ground running again as obtained in the first tenure.”

The Speaker  then called on the people of the state to support the state helmsman at this crucial hour, for it is belabouring the obvious that the nation is currently at the crossroads and demands all hands on deck.

He then urged the progressive elements among the opposition to “engage the government constructively and forward their considered ideas to government, noting that the opposition of the 21st century could not push and pull with hate messages, rumours and pull down device, but uses of facts behind the figures.”

The Speaker spoke just as the Peoples Democratic Party in the state said they had no option than to  abide by the verdict which dashed the ambition of its candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

The Secretary of the PDP in Osun State, Mr. Bola Ajao, said this in an interview with our correspondent.

Ajao said, “We have no option than to abide by the Supreme Court judgment. It  is the final court and remember that he who fights and runs away lives to fight another day.

“We are not running away, we will prepare for the next election very well and we believe that the people of the state have seen reasons they will support us to unseat the APC government in Osun.”
