Israeli soldiers shoot dead two Palestinian men in two separate attacks

Three Israeli police have been wounded after a car attack in east Jerusalem during a day of clashes between police and Palestinian residents after a 17-year-old Palestinian youth was killed.

Late on Saturday night one female officer, 20, was left in a moderate condition with wounds to her legs and arms and pelvis and two male officers both in 20s were lightly wounded after being hit by a vehicle.

Dozens of Palestinians were injured and taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals during the clashes.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfield said the police trio had been standing on a road near A-Tur near the Beit Orot settlement in Mount of Olives.

“The suspect fled the scene and roadblocks were set up in the area and near the neighbourhood. A short while after the suspect’s vehicle was found abandoned.

“Police border units searched the area the the suspect after the attack this evening,” Rosenfield said.

On Saturday 17-year-old Palestinian Ali Abu Ghannam was shot by Israeli police when he approached the police offices are a checkpoint holding a knife.

Police alleged he was pushed back by officers but continued to run toward the crossing holding the knife. Police shot him with live bullets.

Rosenfield said he died in hospital from his wounds.

Haaretz paper in Israel reported the Ghannam family have rejected the Israeli account saying the did not believe Ali Abu had not been armed and that he was traveling back from a friend’s party when he was shot.

Earlier on Saturday evening another Palestinian man attacked an Israeli border police offices with a knife near the contentious Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron in the West Bank.

The Palestinian resident of Hebron Mohammed Salaymeh in his 20s, was shot by an Israeli Defense Force soldier at the scene and died of his wounds at Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

According to police he stabbed a border police offices five times. The officer was left in a moderate condition with wounds to the head and torso.
